Michael Carrick Signs New Manchester United Contract Extension After Impressive Run

Manchester United have confirmed that head coach Michael Carrick has signed a new contract extension following an impressive spell at Old Trafford.

The announcement was made on the club’s official website shortly after United’s final home fixture of the season against Nottingham Forest. According to multiple reports, Carrick has agreed to a new two-year contract with the option of an additional year, a deal that could keep him at the club until 2029.

Carrick has overseen a remarkable turnaround since taking charge earlier this year, guiding Manchester United back into the UEFA Champions League qualification places while delivering statement victories against rivals including Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea.

The decision to hand Carrick a long-term deal was reportedly driven by Manchester United executives Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox, who are said to believe the former midfielder is the ideal figure to lead the club into a new era after his strong performances as interim manager.

The 44-year-old won 11 of his 16 matches in charge, a run that convinced the club’s hierarchy he was the right man to permanently lead the rebuilding project at Old Trafford. His tactical discipline, improved defensive structure, and ability to motivate the squad quickly earned praise from both supporters and pundits.

Carrick’s extension also gives him the opportunity to continue reshaping the squad ahead of next season, with Manchester United expected to support him during the summer transfer window as the club aims to compete strongly for major honours once again.

Fans will now be hoping Carrick can build on the momentum and deliver a stronger 2026/27 campaign across all competitions, including the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, and EFL Cup.
