Chelsea will head into this weekend’s Premier League showdown against Liverpool at Anfield with a severely depleted squad, as injuries continue to pile up for the Blues.
Interim head coach Calum McFarlane is currently dealing with a growing injury crisis that has left Chelsea without a single fully fit natural winger ahead of the crucial encounter.
Five Key Players Ruled Out
Chelsea will be without several important attacking players for the trip to Merseyside. Pedro Neto and Alejandro Garnacho are both sidelined with muscular injuries, while Jamie Gittens and Estevao Willian have been ruled out due to hamstring problems.
The situation became even more concerning on Monday when youngster Jesse Derry was stretchered off after suffering a head injury during his Premier League debut against Nottingham Forest.
Tactical Adjustments Expected
With the squad stretched thin, Chelsea may be forced into an unconventional tactical setup at Anfield. Although Cole Palmer is available and capable of playing on the right wing, uncertainty remains over who could fill the opposite flank.
Speaking ahead of the match, McFarlane admitted Chelsea would need to adapt creatively to cope with the absence of several attacking options.
“We’ve still got a lot of good players, still got a lot of players available that can impact football games,” McFarlane said. “So, we’re going to have to make up some of the players we’re missing in different ways, in the way that we shape the team up.”
The Chelsea boss, however, declined to reveal specific tactical plans before the clash.
Chelsea Looking to End Poor Run
Chelsea’s struggles have extended beyond injuries, with the club currently enduring a six-match losing streak in the Premier League. The Blues have not recorded a league victory in more than two months, increasing the pressure ahead of one of their toughest fixtures of the season.
Despite the difficult circumstances, McFarlane remains hopeful that a reshaped side can produce a surprise result against Liverpool and help reignite Chelsea’s campaign before the season concludes.
