Manchester United are reportedly preparing to hand Michael Carrick the job on a permanent basis following his remarkable turnaround at Old Trafford.
According to multiple reports emerging from the club, senior figures including CEO Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox are expected to recommend Carrick as the club’s long-term manager during discussions with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Carrick has reportedly impressed both the board and the dressing room since stepping into the role earlier this year, helping United rediscover consistency and push their way back into the Champions League qualification places.
Since taking charge in January 2026, the former United midfielder has overseen a dramatic improvement in performances and results. Under his leadership, Manchester United have climbed from seventh to third in the Premier League table while producing major victories against rivals including Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
Reports claim Carrick has managed 15 matches across all competitions, recording 10 wins, three draws and only two defeats. In the Premier League alone, United have reportedly collected 33 points during his spell in charge, reigniting optimism around Old Trafford after a difficult first half of the season.
Several senior players are also believed to have expressed their support for Carrick to remain as manager permanently, with many within the club impressed by his calm leadership, tactical discipline and ability to reconnect the squad.
While the final decision is still expected to rest with Ratcliffe and the executive committee, there is growing confidence internally that Michael Carrick will soon be officially confirmed as Manchester United’s permanent head coach.
