Rúben Amorim’s Manchester United End Nine-Year Anfield Jinx with 2–1 Victory Over Liverpool
Manchester United finally ended their long-running Anfield nightmare on Sunday afternoon, defeating Liverpool 2–1 to claim their first Premier League victory at the historic ground since 2016 a nine-year wait brought to an emphatic end.
Under the tactical guidance of Rúben Amorim, United delivered a disciplined and spirited display, silencing the Anfield crowd while adding to the woes of Arne Slot’s struggling Liverpool side, who have now suffered four consecutive defeats in all competitions.
The visitors made a dream start when Bryan Mbeumo punished an early defensive lapse to fire United ahead in just the second minute a statement of intent that set the tone for a composed and organized first half. Amorim’s men looked sharp, confident, and defensively resolute, a stark contrast to their past performances at Anfield.
Liverpool responded in the second half, with Cody Gakpo drawing the hosts level in the 78th minute after a spell of sustained pressure. The equalizer seemed to lift the home side’s spirits, but United refused to crumble.
Just six minutes later, Harry Maguire rose highest from a corner to nod home the winner in the 84th minute sealing a historic result and sending the away end into wild celebrations.
The victory not only ends United’s nine-year drought at Anfield but also underscores Amorim’s growing influence on the squad. His tactical organization, belief, and consistency are gradually shaping a new era for the Red Devils one built on structure, discipline, and resilience.
For Liverpool, however, it was another bitter chapter in an increasingly turbulent campaign. Once title contenders, Slot’s side now face mounting pressure after a run of poor results and a visibly deflated squad.
As United fans celebrated a long-awaited triumph on enemy soil, Amorim’s message was clear: the old order might just be shifting again.
