Jürgen Klopp Set to Become Germany Head Coach After Julian Nagelsmann’s Exit

Former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund manager Jürgen Klopp is reportedly on the verge of becoming the new head coach of Germany national football team following the departure of Julian Nagelsmann after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to multiple reports, Klopp has agreed in principle to take charge of the German national team after Germany’s disappointing campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Negotiations between the German Football Association and the former Liverpool boss are said to be at an advanced stage, with only the final contractual details remaining before an official announcement.

Nagelsmann stepped down following Germany’s shock Round of 32 elimination, prompting the DFB to move swiftly in its search for a successor. Klopp quickly emerged as the federation’s preferred choice, having built a reputation as one of football’s most accomplished managers through his successful spells at Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund.

The 59-year-old has not managed a club since leaving Liverpool F.C. in 2024. He currently serves as Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull GmbH, but reports suggest that his contract includes a clause allowing him to accept the Germany national team job should the opportunity arise.

Klopp recently confirmed that discussions with the DFB are underway, admitting that developments have “moved pretty quickly.” While emphasizing his respect for Nagelsmann and his current responsibilities at Red Bull, the German coach acknowledged that managing his national team is an opportunity he is seriously considering.

Should the appointment be finalized, Klopp would take charge of Germany as the four-time world champions begin preparations for the next international cycle, with hopes of restoring the nation’s status among football’s elite.
