The first manager to get sacked in the 2025/2026 Premier League season has been confirmed to be Nottingham Forest's Nuno Espirito.
Nottingham Forest have parted ways with head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, with the club confirming his departure in a late-night statement making him teh first Premier League manager to get sacked in the 2025/2026 season. The announcement, released at 12:15 a.m., read:
"Nottingham Forest Football Club confirms that, following recent circumstances, Nuno Espirito Santo has today been relieved of his duties as head coach. The club thanks Nuno for his contribution during a very successful era at the City Ground, particularly his role in the 2024/25 campaign, which will always be remembered as a special chapter in our history. As someone who played a pivotal role in that success, he will always remain an important part of our journey."
Forest have collected just four points from their opening three Premier League fixtures this season, with a 3-0 defeat at home to West Ham United before the international break proving to be Nuno’s final outing in charge.
Reports of tension between Nuno and club owner Evangelos Marinakis, as well as the new transfer chief Edu, had already cast doubt over his long-term position. Although Marinakis insisted their relationship was “solid,” the heavy defeat to West Ham is believed to have sealed the manager’s fate.
Attention now turns to finding a replacement before Forest travel to Arsenal for a lunchtime kick-off on Saturday. Among the names linked with the vacancy are Brendan Rodgers, currently at Celtic, former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, and Ange Postecoglou, who guided Tottenham Hotspur into the Europa League last season.
