Enzo Maresca Makes First Big Change at Manchester City as the Post-Guardiola Era Begins

Following Pep Guardiola’s historic ten-year reign at the Etihad Stadium, new Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has officially taken the reins and he is already putting his personal stamp on the club.

In a symbolic move signaling the start of a new chapter, Maresca has chosen not to move into Pep Guardiola’s former office, which the legendary manager used for a decade. Instead, Guardiola’s iconic office has been repurposed into a tactical meeting room, while Maresca has settled into the office previously occupied by the assistant manager.

While subtle, the facility change is being viewed around the Etihad as a clear statement: Maresca intends to establish his own distinct identity rather than simply operating in Guardiola's shadow.

Respect for the Past, Focus on the Future

The move comes after Maresca met with Guardiola in Barcelona for an extensive multi-hour discussion before officially taking charge. During the meeting, the pair went over the detailed dynamics of the Manchester City squad—evaluating individual player personalities, how squad members handle being rotated out, and pinpointing areas where the team might need renewed motivation.

Although Maresca previously worked alongside Guardiola as part of City’s coaching staff and shares a deep tactical alignment with his mentor, he has made it clear that he will do things his own way.

The relationship between the two remains exceptionally strong. As Maresca steps into one of the most high-pressure managerial roles in world football, he maintains an open line of communication with Guardiola, who is only a phone call away for guidance.

With a strong foundation already in place and an intimate knowledge of City's winning culture, Maresca’s early moves show a manager confident in creating a distinct new era for the champions while upholding the standards that brought them a decade of dominance.
