Davido Reveals Omah Lay Helped Shape His Grammy-Nominated Hit “With You”
Afrobeats superstar Davido has shed new light on the creative process behind his Grammy-nominated single “With You,” revealing that Omah Lay played a pivotal role in refining the final version of the track.
Speaking at a recent public event a clip of which is now circulating online Davido shared that he rewrote a key part of his verse just two days before the song’s release. The decision, he admitted, still makes his heart race whenever he remembers how close it was to the deadline.
Davido described the updated verse as “legendary,” crediting Omah Lay for encouraging him to make the last-minute change. According to him, Omah Lay believed the original ending didn’t fully embody Davido’s natural style, telling him the earlier version sounded like he was “trying to be cool.”
Trusting the feedback, Davido revisited the final eight bars of his verse and replaced them with the refreshed version that fans have come to love. He added that although he had several songs ready at the time, Omah Lay’s honest creative input helped elevate “With You” into the standout hit it eventually became.
Davido’s revelation underscores the importance of collaboration in Afrobeats showing how even globally acclaimed artists rely on trusted peers to push them creatively and craft music that resonates deeply with listeners.
