Chike Opens Up About Faith, Church, and the Personal Moment That Made Him Stop Attending
Nigerian singer Chike is making headlines after opening up about the deeply personal experiences that shaped his relationship with faith while also trending online for a heartwarming gesture toward a loyal fan.
In a recent conversation, Chike recounted an awkward incident from years ago that caused him to step away from church gatherings. He recalled visiting a church where the praise-and-worship leader turned out to be someone he had previously been romantically involved with. The unexpected encounter left him uncomfortable and unable to stay focused.
“The lady leading praise and worship… we had history,” he revealed. “I was having flashbacks. She was praying, and I was just wondering what was happening.”
The discomfort lingered so strongly that Chike stopped attending the church after just a week.
Despite this, the singer made it clear that he hasn’t abandoned his belief in God. He reflected on earlier moments in his career when he relied on prayer for strength, especially during a challenging period while living in Primewater Gardens with his then-girlfriend.

“I just said, God, I don’t have anybody. I don’t have anything. Just help me,” he said.
Chike also shared a chaotic moment shortly after releasing his debut album, when he unknowingly consumed a very strong edible.
“Three, four days into the album release, I didn’t even know where I was,” he recalled.
Although his faith remains intact, Chike admitted that the structure of organized church doesn’t fit into his life anymore. For him, what truly matters whether in personal life, public life, or leadership is simple: treating people well.
“You just need to do right by people,” he emphasized, adding that he doesn’t feel pressured to conform to a rigid definition of Christian living.
Chike Warms Hearts After Rewarding a Loyal Fan
In a separate moment that delighted fans online, Chike showed generosity to a devoted listener following Spotify’s annual Wrapped report.
A fan identified as Ope shared her listening statistics on X (Twitter), revealing that Chike was her top artist of the year with an impressive 36,341 minutes streamed placing her in his top 1% of listeners. She jokingly complained that the singer had ignored her dedication, posting a screenshot of her stats.
Chike eventually saw the tweet and responded with warmth, asking for her bank details:
“Good morning! Your bank, please!”
While he didn’t disclose the amount he sent, the gesture sparked excitement across social media, with many fans rushing to post their own Spotify stats in hopes of getting the same response.
