Xabi Alonso Confirms Alejandro Garnacho Will Leave Chelsea This Summer

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed that Alejandro Garnacho will leave Stamford Bridge during the summer transfer window, ending the Argentine winger’s brief spell at the club.

The 22-year-old was absent when Chelsea’s squad returned for the opening phase of pre-season training at Cobham, with the club already working alongside his representatives to secure a permanent transfer.

Garnacho joined Chelsea from Manchester United just a year ago in a deal worth €46.2 million. However, the move failed to produce the impact both the player and the club had anticipated, and Alonso has now made it clear that the winger is not part of his plans for the 2026/27 season.

Xabi Alonso Confirms Garnacho’s Departure

Speaking during his latest pre-season press conference, Alonso confirmed that Garnacho is expected to leave Chelsea before the close of the summer transfer window.

The Spanish coach explained that the player is currently focused on finalising a move away from Stamford Bridge, while Chelsea continue discussions with clubs interested in signing the Argentine international.

His comments effectively end any speculation over Garnacho’s future at the club, with Chelsea now prioritising a permanent sale.

Why Is Alejandro Garnacho Leaving Chelsea?

Garnacho arrived in west London carrying high expectations after emerging as one of Manchester United’s brightest young prospects.

Despite flashes of quality, he struggled to establish himself as a regular starter and was unable to consistently deliver the performances expected following his high-profile transfer.

Both Chelsea and the player have now accepted that the move has not worked out as planned, making a summer departure the best solution for all parties.

Chelsea’s Asking Price Revealed

Chelsea are reportedly seeking around €50 million (£42 million) from clubs outside England for Garnacho’s signature.

Premier League sides are expected to pay closer to £45 million, with the Blues aiming to recover their investment and potentially make a small profit on the €46.2 million they paid Manchester United last summer.

The club’s preference is to complete a permanent transfer rather than approve another loan deal.

Clubs Interested in Signing Garnacho

Serie A side AS Roma are understood to be one of the leading contenders for Garnacho’s signature.

However, negotiations have proven challenging, as Chelsea remain firm in their stance of accepting only a permanent transfer rather than a loan with an option to buy.

Several Premier League clubs are also monitoring the situation, while teams from the Saudi Pro League have expressed interest ahead of the new campaign.

With the summer transfer window still open, Garnacho is expected to receive additional offers in the coming weeks as Chelsea look to finalise his departure before the start of the 2026/27 season.
