Chelsea Receive Positive Update on Liam Delap’s Injury Ahead of Busy December Schedule

Chelsea fans can breathe a slight sigh of relief as new reports provide clarity on the injury status of forward Liam Delap, who was recently sidelined during a crucial period of the season.

How Did the Injury Happen?

Delap was forced off with a shoulder injury during Chelsea’s goalless draw against Bournemouth. The incident ruled him out of action as the Blues prepared for their Champions League clash against Atalanta in Italy.

Good News for Chelsea

Despite initial fears of a long-term setback, Chelsea have now received encouraging updates. The club believes the 22-year-old won’t be sidelined for more than four weeks, and medical staff are actively working to shorten that recovery time.

Head coach Enzo Maresca confirmed that Delap’s shoulder injury is neither a fracture nor a dislocation, easing concerns about a prolonged absence.

Matches Delap Could Miss

If Delap sits out the full four-week recovery period, he is expected to miss key fixtures, including:

  • Everton

  • Cardiff City (Carabao Cup)

  • Newcastle United

  • Aston Villa

  • Bournemouth

Chelsea are set to face Manchester City on January 4, which falls just one day after the four-week mark from the date of his injury raising hopes he might return in time for that crucial match if rehabilitation goes smoothly.

Struggles and Expectations

Since arriving from Ipswich Town during the 2025 summer transfer window, Delap has yet to fully settle into life at Stamford Bridge. His form has been inconsistent, and the injury comes at a time when he was still trying to establish himself in the squad.

Still, Chelsea supporters will be hopeful that once he returns, Delap can rediscover his rhythm and begin contributing the performances expected of him.
