Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has finally opened up about her long-rumored fallout with fellow Nigerian singer Seyi Shay, offering new insight into what really happened between them.
Speaking on the OffAir with Gbemi & Toolz podcast, Tiwa addressed her viral 2021 altercation with Seyi Shay a moment that sparked endless online debates and rumors about rivalry among female artists.
According to Tiwa, the confrontation at a Lagos salon stemmed from unresolved tension, particularly over a “diss track” she believed was directed at her.
“I’m not going to pretend like we’re cool in the salon when you’ve done a diss track about me,” she said. “That was huge. It was painful.”
Beyond revisiting the incident, Tiwa also took the opportunity to debunk long-standing rumors that she has worked behind the scenes to block opportunities for other female musicians including Seyi Shay and Victoria Kimani.
“If you’ve heard that I blocked someone’s bag, say their name. Let’s talk about it,” Tiwa stated firmly. “I’m very pro-women. I love seeing other women win. It doesn’t take anything from me.”
To further prove her point, the Somebody’s Son crooner shared a personal experience about losing a major brand endorsement after becoming a mother a deal that ironically went to Seyi Shay.
“When I got pregnant and had Jamil, I was taken off a Pepsi campaign because I couldn’t bounce back in time, and Seyi was booked instead,” she revealed. “So how am I the one stopping other people’s bags?”
Tiwa ended on a powerful note, calling for transparency and accountability within the industry.
“The only way we can deal with this is if people call them out. But nobody wants to,” she said.
Her candid remarks have since reignited public conversation about her relationship with Seyi Shay, as fans and media reflect on how rivalry narratives often shape perceptions of women in music.
