Two Suspects Extradited in Connection with AKA’s Murder, South African Police Confirm
South African police have confirmed the arrest and extradition of two key suspects in connection with the 2023 murder of rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his close friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.
In an official report, authorities identified brothers Siyabonga and Malusi Ndimande as the alleged masterminds behind the attack that took place on Durban’s Florida Road in February 2023. The pair, who had long been sought by investigators, were extradited from Eswatini to South Africa after months of legal disputes and delays.
Their return marks a major turning point in the prolonged investigation, raising the total number of suspects now in custody to seven. Police have described the arrests as a major breakthrough, noting that the Ndimande brothers are also under investigation for two additional violent cases linked to KwaZulu-Natal’s taxi industry.
The extradition process had been fraught with challenges, as the suspects fought to avoid being sent back to South Africa. Authorities believe the murder was part of a coordinated assassination, a theory that has guided the direction of the investigation since the case began.
Tony Forbes, AKA’s father, expressed relief at the development, saying he was “grateful that all key suspects may finally stand trial together.” He also commended investigators for maintaining transparency throughout what has been a complex cross-border legal process.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed that the case now spans three separate dockets and 24 charges, and said it remains confident in its evidence. A heavy police presence has been maintained around court proceedings amid heightened public interest and security concerns.
This latest development renews hope that justice may finally be within reach for the families of AKA and Tibz and for fans who have awaited answers for nearly three years.
