Liam Rosenior has provided clarity on the situation involving Enzo Fernández following the midfielder’s recent comments during the international break, as Chelsea Football Club prepare for a crucial clash against Manchester City.

The Chelsea head coach confirmed that Fernández will not be available for selection this weekend, reiterating that the suspension previously issued still stands. The Argentine midfielder had already been ruled out of fixtures against Port Vale and Manchester City, with the latter now officially confirmed.

Speaking on the matter, Rosenior emphasized both the seriousness of the situation and the steps taken to address it internally.

“Enzo will not play on Sunday. Hopefully after that, he will be a massive part. There are a few hurdles we need to overcome. We had a really good conversation. He’s apologised to me and the club. We will deal with that after a massive game on Sunday. I have had three to four conversations with Enzo, he has apologised to the club and me. It was a serious meeting about something very serious.”

What Led to the Situation?

Fernández’s suspension stems from comments he made during multiple interviews while on international duty. In those interviews, the midfielder openly spoke about his admiration for Spain particularly Madrid raising concerns within the club.

What Did Fernández Say?

The World Cup winner expressed a personal preference for living in Spain, drawing comparisons between Madrid and his hometown in Argentina.

“I’d like to live in Spain. I really like Madrid; it reminds me of Buenos Aires. Players live where they want. I’d live in Madrid.”

Although Fernández did not directly mention Real Madrid, the remarks were enough to trigger internal disciplinary action from Chelsea.

Focus Shifts to Manchester City Clash

With Fernández sidelined, Chelsea will turn their attention to a high-stakes encounter against Manchester City. The Blues will be aiming to capitalize on their opponent’s inconsistent league form as they push to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Chelsea supporters will be hopeful that the team can deliver a strong performance despite the off-field distractions, while also anticipating Fernández’s eventual return once the matter is fully resolved.
