Lamine Yamal Hails Lionel Messi as Football’s Greatest but Vows to Beat Him in a World Cup Final

Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal has once again paid tribute to Lionel Messi, describing the Argentine legend as the greatest footballer in history while making it clear that he is determined to carve out his own legacy.

The teenage winger, who has frequently drawn comparisons with the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner due to his rapid rise at Barcelona, reiterated that Messi remains his biggest football inspiration.

“Messi is the greatest player in history. If anyone doubts that, it’s because they want to.”

Although Yamal holds the Argentina captain in the highest regard, the Spain international admitted that admiration would be set aside if the two nations were to meet on football’s biggest stage.

“He’s my idol, but if we face Argentina in the final, I’ll do everything I can to beat him.”

Despite the inevitable comparisons with the Barcelona icon, Yamal has consistently insisted that he is focused on writing his own story rather than trying to replicate Messi’s extraordinary career. The 18-year-old says he is honoured to be mentioned alongside one of the game’s all-time greats but remains committed to building a unique identity as a player.

Yamal’s performances for both Barcelona and Spain have established him as one of the brightest young talents in world football, with his creativity, confidence, and maturity continuing to impress fans and pundits alike.

With Spain and Argentina widely regarded among the favourites for major international honours, the prospect of a World Cup final featuring Yamal against his childhood hero remains one of football’s most exciting possibilities. Should that dream encounter become reality, the young Spaniard has already made his intentions clear his respect for Messi will remain, but his focus will be on helping Spain lift the trophy.
