A viral TikTok video posted on Saturday evening by car dealer Ibilo has revealed the demolition of the popular car showroom owned by social media influencer and car dealer, Waris Olayinka Akinwande, popularly known as Ola of Lagos.
In the video, the remains of the demolished property were shown, with Ibilo captioning:
“Lagos State Government Demolishes OOL Autos. Heavy one today.”
As of the time of this report, the Lagos State Government has not released an official statement confirming the reason for the demolition, leaving the public speculating on the cause.
Public Reaction and Speculations
Many social media users have suggested that the building may have been constructed beneath a high-tension power line, which violates urban planning and safety regulations in the state.
One user, identified as Adekunle Autoparts, commented:
“They demolished it because he built it under a power line.”
Another TikTok user, Sisi Noni, expressed mixed feelings about the incident, writing:
“I’m not trying to sound hateful, but the first time I saw this structure, I noticed the high tension. Building under that is risky. But they could’ve asked him to relocate instead of destroying everything.”
Broader Demolition Exercise in Lagos
The event comes just hours after the Lagos State Government carried out another demolition exercise in the Lekki area, targeting over 17 houses illegally built on the Right of Way (RoW) of the Ikota River alignment.
According to Tokunbo Wahab, the State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, the move was part of a broader effort to reclaim and protect flood-prone zones across Lagos. He explained that developers had earlier been warned against encroachment and illegal reclamation of natural waterways.
“We stopped them then, but we were alerted again recently that the encroachment had resumed aggressively, with attempts to sell to unsuspecting buyers,” Wahab said.
Recovered evidence from the site reportedly included ongoing reclamation activities, sand-filling operations, and partially completed structures built directly on the natural water channel.
Conclusion
While the Lagos State Government is yet to issue an official statement regarding Ola of Lagos’ demolished showroom, early indications suggest it may be linked to ongoing enforcement against unsafe and illegal structures. The influencer is yet to publicly comment on the incident.
