Kcee Breaks Silence on Long-Rumored Rift With Flavour, Reveals Origin of Tension

Nigerian music star Kcee has finally addressed the long-standing speculation surrounding his relationship with highlife sensation Flavour, offering new clarity on what may have sparked the rumored rift between them.

The conversation around their tension resurfaced in 2024 after Flavour publicly criticized an unnamed artist for allegedly copying his style. Although he mentioned no names, Kcee responded online, cautioning against gatekeeping Igbo cultural music a reaction that intensified public speculation about a fallout between the two.

Kcee Reveals the First Point of Conflict

In a new interview with Yanga FM Lagos, Kcee traced the origins of the perceived disagreement back to their earliest interaction. According to him, veteran talent manager Soso Soberekon once introduced a young Flavour to him in hopes of securing a record deal.

Kcee said that during that period he was already an established artist, and after evaluating Flavour, he didn’t feel the highlife singer was a suitable fit for his label.

“I came into the music industry before Flavour,” Kcee explained. “Soso brought him to me years ago to sign him. I told him I couldn’t sign Flavour because I didn’t see the potential then.”

‘It Was Never Personal’ Kcee Clears the Air

The Limpopo hitmaker emphasized that his decision at the time had nothing to do with personal issues, adding that he still does not understand why Flavour may hold any resentment today.

He suggested that part of the misunderstanding could stem from how some colleagues view him.

On Being Underrated in the Industry

Kcee noted that his humility has often led people in the industry to underestimate him:

“A lot of my colleagues underrate me, and my humility contributes to that. I don’t brag; I don’t need to. Time always proves them wrong.”

He revealed that many who once doubted him have since returned to acknowledge his growth and success.

“Some of those who doubted me in the past have apologised and admitted they were wrong.”
