Fireboy DML and Asake’s “Bandana” Earns RIAA Gold Certification in the United States
Nigerian music stars Fireboy DML and Asake have achieved a major career milestone as their smash hit “Bandana” has officially been certified Gold in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The certification confirms that the track has surpassed 500,000 units in combined sales and streams across the US another clear sign of Afrobeats’ expanding global footprint and staying power in one of the world’s most competitive music markets.
For Fireboy DML, this achievement marks his second RIAA Gold record, following the global success of “Peru”, which later received a chart-topping remix featuring Ed Sheeran. This milestone further cements Fireboy’s reputation as one of Afrobeats’ strongest international voices.
The moment is equally historic for Asake, as Bandana becomes the first song in his catalogue to earn an RIAA Gold plaque. Known for his energetic fusion of Afrobeats, Fuji, and Amapiano, Asake adds a significant global accomplishment to his fast-growing list of accolades.
Originally released in 2022 as part of Fireboy’s Playboy album rollout, Bandana quickly exploded into a cultural phenomenon. The song dominated Nigeria’s TurnTable Top 100 for seven consecutive weeks and became a fan favourite for its seamless blend of Fireboy’s smooth delivery and Asake’s distinct street-influenced sound.
With this new certification, Fireboy DML and Asake continue to elevate Bandana as one of Afrobeats’ most impactful international collaborations showcasing just how far the genre and its brightest stars have travelled across the globe.
