Pastor Adeboye Warns Tinubu: “China and Russia Won’t Defend Nigeria If the U.S. Attacks”
By [Your Publication Name] | November 9, 2025
Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has cautioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take seriously the recent threat of a United States military intervention in Nigeria.
Speaking during the November edition of the Holy Ghost Night at the Redemption Camp on Friday, November 7, 2025, Adeboye warned that neither China nor Russia would come to Nigeria’s aid if U.S. President Donald Trump makes good on his warning to act over alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
“If the U.S. should attack us, China is not coming to defend us, Russia won’t defend us,” Adeboye said. “All the so-called world leaders will talk and condemn what America has done, but they won’t help us.”
Adeboye’s Advice to Tinubu: Seek Diplomacy, Act Decisively
The revered cleric urged President Tinubu to diplomatically engage President Trump and request a 100-day grace period to intensify Nigeria’s counterinsurgency operations.
If granted, Adeboye suggested that the President should instruct the Service Chiefs and all security agencies to eliminate the threat of terrorism within 90 days or resign if they fail.
He also called for a firmer stance against those funding insecurity in Nigeria.
“When giving orders to the Service Chiefs this time around, we should make it clear that they are not only to eliminate the terrorists but also their sponsors, no matter how influential they may be,” he stated.
Recalling His Meeting With Buhari on Insecurity
Adeboye drew a parallel to his past interactions with former President Muhammadu Buhari, recalling how he once advised similar decisive action against terrorism.
He reminded the congregation that Buhari had previously issued a three-month ultimatum to security chiefs to end Boko Haram’s reign or resign a directive that was never enforced.
“Some of you will remember who called the Service Chiefs together and said, ‘I give you three months, get rid of Boko Haram or resign.’ It’s not allowed to tell you who gave him that advice,” Adeboye revealed.

The RCCG leader recounted a private follow-up visit with Buhari after the deadline passed:
“Three months went by, and the work was not done. So I went to see him. Unfortunately, like I said, he’s not alive now. I would have asked you to go and ask him, ‘Sir, why didn’t you follow through?’”
While Adeboye declined to share Buhari’s response, he said the key takeaway from their conversation was the need to target both terrorists and their financiers.
Trump’s Threat: “Guns-a-Blazing”
Adeboye’s remarks came amid a growing diplomatic storm following President Trump’s warning to launch a military strike on Nigeria over alleged Christian persecution.
In a social media post, Trump declared that if Nigeria’s government fails to stop what he described as “the killing of Christians,” the U.S. would cut off all aid and could even intervene militarily.
“If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’” Trump wrote.“I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action.”
He described any potential U.S. strike as “fast, vicious, and sweet,” vowing to defend Christians against Islamic extremists.

China Responds: “We Oppose Using Religion as an Excuse for Force”
China has since condemned Trump’s comments. Speaking at a press conference in Beijing on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, reaffirmed China’s strategic partnership with Nigeria and warned against foreign interference.
“As Nigeria’s comprehensive strategic partner, China firmly opposes any country using religion and human rights as an excuse to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs, and threatening other countries with sanctions and force,” she said.
Ning emphasised that China supports Nigeria’s efforts to pursue “a development path suited to its national conditions.”
U.S. Lawmakers Push Back at Beijing
In response, U.S. Congressman Riley Moore criticised China’s stance, describing the country as a “Communist autocracy” with no moral authority to challenge U.S. policy.
“President Trump is absolutely right to defend our brothers and sisters in Christ who are suffering horrific persecution,” Moore said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).“China will not dictate our foreign policy to us, and we will not be lectured by a regime that arrests pastors and detains ethnic minorities in concentration camps.”

A Call for Urgent Action
Pastor Adeboye’s message underscores growing anxiety about Nigeria’s security and the country’s international standing.
His warning that no foreign power will defend Nigeria if war breaks out doubles as a call for self-reliance and swift domestic reform.
As diplomatic tensions rise between the U.S., China, and Nigeria, the cleric’s appeal to President Tinubu is clear:
Act fast, engage wisely, and confront insecurity with uncompromising resolv
