Champz, Wizkid’s 14-Year-Old Son, Reveals the UK Rap Influences Behind His Breakout EP Champion’s Arrival
Rising Nigerian rapper Champz, the 14-year-old son of global Afrobeats superstar Wizkid, is carving out his own lane in the music world and he’s finally shedding light on the inspirations fueling his rapid rise.
In a new interview with Glitch Africa, Champz opened up about the creative forces behind his debut EP, Champion’s Arrival, offering fans a deeper understanding of the unique sound that has put him in the spotlight.
UK Rap Meets Afro-Fusion: The Core Influences
According to Champz, four major artists shaped the direction of his EP: J Hus, Asko, Nines, and Clavish.
“These are the main inspirations for this EP,” he shared, explaining how each artist influenced his approach to rhythm, flow, and storytelling.
His music leans heavily into Afro-swing and UK drill, genres known for their gritty lyricism, minimalist beats, and street-centered narratives. By naming some of the UK’s most distinctive voices, Champz signals his intention to build a sound separate from his father’s Afrobeats heritage.
A Record-Breaking Debut
Champz’s appearance on Glitch Africa comes on the heels of the explosive success of Champion’s Arrival.
The project made headlines after hitting No. 1 on the Apple Music Nigeria Albums Chart within just five hours of release.
It also charted in multiple countries and surpassed one million streams within its first 24 hours, cementing his arrival as one of the fastest-rising young acts in African music.
A Rising Star With a Clear Artistic Identity
With a fast-growing fan base, an impressive debut performance, and a bold blend of UK rap and Afro-fusion influences, Champz is positioning himself as one of the most promising young voices shaping the next generation of African and UK-influenced rap.
