Atlético Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has emphatically ruled out any possibility of Julián Álvarez joining Barcelona, insisting that the Argentine forward is not for sale despite growing transfer speculation.
Reports had suggested that Barcelona were keen on signing the World Cup winner, but Cerezo made Atlético’s position crystal clear, stressing that Álvarez remains a fundamental part of Diego Simeone’s long-term plans and will continue leading the line at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano next season.
Enrique Cerezo Sends Clear Message on Julián Álvarez’s Future
Addressing the rumors surrounding the striker, Cerezo dismissed any doubts about Álvarez’s future with a firm response.
“Joan Laporta is a good friend and he already knows where Julián Álvarez is going to play next season. Let me insist: Julián is our player and will be our player next season.”
The Atlético president’s comments came after Barcelona president Joan Laporta revealed that the Catalan giants had submitted an offer for the former Manchester City forward. However, Atlético Madrid have remained unwavering in their stance, making it clear they have no intention of negotiating the sale of one of their most valuable players.
Atlético Building Around Álvarez
Álvarez enjoyed an outstanding campaign following his move from Manchester City, quickly establishing himself as one of Atlético Madrid’s most influential players. His goals, work rate, and versatility have convinced the club that he will be central to their ambitions in both La Liga and European competitions.
With Diego Simeone placing significant trust in the Argentine international, Atlético view him as a cornerstone of the team’s future rather than a player available on the transfer market.
Barcelona’s Interest Hits a Dead End
Although Barcelona continue to admire Álvarez and have already made their interest known, Atlético Madrid’s latest response leaves little room for optimism. Enrique Cerezo’s strong public declaration signals that the club is determined to keep hold of the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner and is not prepared to entertain offers from their domestic rivals.
For now, Barcelona’s pursuit appears to have reached a standstill, with Atlético Madrid making it clear that Julián Álvarez will remain in red and white for the upcoming season.
